Hi Denise, this may not have any bearing on what you are looking for but i also have trouble with a Carr family in and around the same area My Frederick was born to a Alfred and Charlotte Carr around1870 and lived in Islington he also had a brother Charles . That is all i know about them.

This seems very muddled ? Are you looking for living relatines or ancestors?Harness makers fell from grace with the advent of the car ?

Help I have hit a brick wall for many years with Frederick Carr.
I am desperately trying to find the birth of my paternal great grandfather Frederick Carr born c1859 according to 1881 census in Clerkenwell and that is where he was living then. My mum and I have 5 wrong birth certifictates. On his marriage certifiacte his father is Charles Carr, Soldier. Frederick was a Harness Maker and died in 1923 a Master Harness maker. His son Frederick William was born 1880 and Thomas my grandfather was born in 1884 in Bethnal Green. Thomas was also a Soldier and died in 1926. Mum was very young so did not know much about her dad's family but that Frederick and his wife Caroline(nee Eveson) had split up and Frederick went with his father and Thomas with his mother at a young age and she does not know what happened to Frederick junior. We cannot find either Frederick on the 1891 or 1901 census but have found Frederick senior in trade directories for 1914/1919 in Shoreditch and that is where he died. As my nan remarried after Thomas died nothing was spoken about of her dad's family.

Mum is not getting any younger and would love to know if there are any descendants from Frederick William and also the origins of her Carr family.
If anybody can help in any way at all or point me in the right direction. Maybe there is a guild of Harness Makers anybody knows of. we would be grateful for any help
Many thanks
Denise.
