London record office?

Hi everyone

I'm just starting out on this and my Dad told me there is a place you can go to view all the records. I know it sounds miserly but I don't want to pay out for certificate after certificate! Does anyone know where the record office is in the London area? I think it used to be Somerset house but they moved it. Thank you

You'll still need to buy certs to know if your info in 100% correct

Example, my GT G/Dad on all census was called William but was registered as Samuel which i got off his B/C

well the records were moved to the Family Records Centre Islington known as the FRC but this closed earlier this year and the big books with the GRO refs were transferred to National Archives Kew which will be available to search on microfiche,However you have never been able to view actual certs all you will get is the GRO ref which you then use to order from www.gro.gov.uk

use to be st catherine house,,in london not sure where its is now, but if you know the area where the birth was the locial reg office will be able to help

you will still have to buy the certs tho even from a local records office.You have never been able to just view them .

My mum need a birth cert some few years ago when the records were at Somerset House, she still had to go there look up their records and fill a form in with the ref and pay her money and then wait whilst they found the cert .copied it , and then she got the copy needed
