Looks like marriage cert is the only way forward although this is not immediate family. Bysouth/South family have lots of agricultural farmers, brickmakers/layers and stone masons as trades/professions - as previously mentioned I believe any Bysouth can be linked to origin around 1540 it's just a matter of finding the missing links.

Sorry for not responding earlier I had to pop out. As the majority of Bysouth's that have been researched so far have the same common ancestry I've been trying to research some of the 'newer' families. With BMD now showing maiden names of mothers and also matching marriages for those records around 1900 Im looking at loose ends - some I've managed to make the connection but some such as this query I don't have any starting point unless she can be found in a family group in 1901 census - sorry again that it's causing problems.

Bysouth in Essex as mentioned above - I have details of some of these family groups but not sure if Mabel is linked to any of these.

You will need to know Mabel's parents for further research--many Bysouth's in Essex.

Rochford is about 5km north of Southend-on-Sea

Have you obtained Mabel's birth certificate which would list the parents? I'm not finding any Bysouth family in Rochford, Essex County (there's a Romford) in 1901.
