My grandad born Winskill Settle N Yorks ? His uncles or great uncles were Thomas Twisleton born 1845/6 and Henry Lea Twisleton born Nov 1847, known as 'the Dales poets' also born Winskill.His aunt was called Polly, probably diminutive of Mary or Mary Ann.. He was the black sheep of the family, cast off due to drunkeness. He died and was buried in a pauper's grave at Waltonwrays Skipton N.Yorks.approx 1912. His niece Beatrice Twisleton married Robert Lemon, had son John Lemon, vicar in Otley W.Yorks 1953. can anyone identify William Twisleton's parents and establish his place in the family please? , I think he was born about 1870. IGI records the parents of Thomas chr. 5 September 1845 and Henry Lea chr 9 November 1847 in Gigglewick, Yorkshire as Francis Twisleton and Mary. No other children are recorded, so unless GRO ceased christening entries in the parish register, then William only had these two uncles or great uncles!!!!

Hi Glitter baby, you have found my grandad and my mother R uth, and her brother Johnnie and sister Leah. That's what I have been looking for all the time! Because I rely on my mother's memeory ( she died when I was 14 ) and she relied on her dad's stories, and he was probably maudlin drunk most of the time, the details were not accurate. I never knew how old she really was, and Leah's age was a guess, even for her. She thought of him as a young man, but he was quite old. Ruth Broadley was his common-law wife, and the children were his. I can't thank you enough for finding them for me. It gives me a background for the sad stories she used to tell.
