i dont now when adelaide was born or where she was born all i know is she married a man called leonard sullivan and had children . terence sullivan 1932 croydon daphne sullivan 1941 romford and 2 other daughters that i cant seems to find info for rosemary sullivan and eileen sullivan i dont know if they had any more i remember my mum telling me that my nan had a baby that died thats all i know .. any help would be great many thanks

Colette you have my sympathy, I know you're keen to get going with your tree but I'm afraid that you are going to have to invest in a number of certs

First you know that Terry was born in 1932, you need his birth cert to confirm that his parents are Leonard & Adelaide.

Next you have been given the marriage details from Leonard & Adelaide. You will need a copy of their marriage cert to find out their ages & their Dad's names.

Then you will need to find Leonard & Adelaide's birth certs.

Each cert can be ordered from the GRO & will cost you £7. I'm sorry but there's no quick fix, this is going to take you some time & money to get going.

If Leonard is Terry's father it will show on Terry's birth cert. The birth cert would also confirm Adelaide's maiden name.

Jill there's another thread on Terry Sullivan, his parents were still having children in 1941.

i have ordered terrys birth cert from GRO and but i need the number to order a copy of adelaides and a number to order leonard birth ...

Wait for the birth cert to arrive before you do anything else. Chances are his parents are Leonard & Adelaide but if they turn out to be "Bert & Brenda" you'll have ordered certs that you don't need.

no idear on this one this is the problem i am having with this on my mums bith cert it says annie florance sullivan maiden name rutter but when i look it up all i can find is a marrige between adelaide f rutter .. so no idear if iam looking right or not

But that's only POSSIBLE birth as we've no idea where or when she was born unless get a marriage cert to Leonard. If she was Annie in the birth cert of her child, then should be under Annie.

FreeBMD only goes upto sometime early1920s. So we'd need to look in the complete index for her marriage.

I've looked for Annie from 1923 to 1931.. Cant spot her except for Adelaide F Rutter.. Odd. Only one with Rutter to Leonard Sullivan.

No idea if she had changed name when registering her children.
