Shirley does it give a first name for the wife - PM me if it does please..............

Yes he could have married before 43............can't imagine his wife to be been present at my Mum's birth, would have thought they would have been married for her to be there when my Mum was born

so he could have married pre 1943 then

Jessie aka Maddies mate Report 27 May 2008 17:05

Shirely all I know re his marriage is that his wife was present at my Mum's birth in 1943..........hence my thinking that he was born around 1920ish

Don't know his wife's maiden name - she is still living ( not in contact with her ) so don't really want to put her name on here with hers still been alive, believe she is well into her late 80's now

Jessie - back then when being an unmarried parent was still quite shameful (especially for those living in certain areas where all the locals knew everyone's business) girls were often sent far across the country to see out their pregnancy and give birth - or they would run away of their own accord so as not to be forced by family into giving the child up for adoption (or worse still, aborting it).

I would say that the birth entry is worth taking a gamble on. You already know from the index ref that the mother's maiden name was Saville (so this is an unmarried mother) so getting the cert would confirm the mother's first name for you.

Jessie

If you are searching the partial indexs on Ancestry, you won't find anything that isn't on freebmd as the partial index is taken from freebmd, which is more up-to-date. At the moment the 1920s are only partially transcribed.

A tip for saving time searching the complete index -

Search first on freebmd, just using the surname (if it is not a common surname, use one that is fairly common and close to it alphabetically).

Make a note of any quarters that have no results (showing that area of the alphabet has not yet been transcribed) and just search those quarters manually on the complete index.

Good Question........which of course I cannot answer, but only to say at that time it was very shameful...so is possible, especially if they had family in Romford that she was sent there.

Just read the last part of your thread....about her returning to Sheffield.... only way to find out is to send for the certificate....unfortunately if it is wrong, you would have had to pay for the wrong info.

Have you searched the complete index on Ancestry?

Harry Saville.....................Mother Lucy Saville.......
Not sure of birth year for Harry, all I know is that he saw active service in WW2, his Mother Lucy was born 1901c.
He kept his mothers maiden name.

I know that in 1943 he was married so presumed born around 1920c but cannot find a birth reg for him, presume born Sheffield but may have been born elsewhere in the country due to unmarried mother.

Want to find birth reg to send for birth cert to see if any father is listed or not

Have searched Ancestry and Freebmd but no joy

Thanks in advance
Jessie
