John was born c 1807 - 1812 and married Mary Dunn of Deal They had a son Samuel,b1836 and d.Elizabeth.John was an expedition man in 1841 to NZ on the ship "Whitby". He evidently changed his mind and after a release from Arthur Wakefield he left for England on the ARROW after only 2 weeks in NZ! He failed to get a message to Mary in time and she arrived in NZ to find no husband. She eventually lived for many years with John Atwood who was also on the WHITBYand she had 10 more children. John Atwood's wife and 2 girls didn't arrive on the ship. We cannot find John Barnes' birth or parents and would love help with this. We think we have his eventual remarriage and death in a poorhouse in 1872. Any knowledge of Mary Dunn;s or John's life in the UK would be welcome and we have heaps of information on the N Z end to exchange. Gaynor James |
