My grandmother was Ellen Taylor born June 1896 in liverpool she was married to Henry Clayton. I cant find any info of their marriage. They must have married sometime in the 1920's can anyone help me? Also I cant find her Parents and no idea what their names are. the trouble is there is no-one left for me to ask.

Taylor Ellen Liverpool 8b 30

if you know her birth year and area this is a possibility if you order the cert it will have parents names on it

Clitheroelass

Clitheroelass Report 12 May 2008 22:23

this a possibility in 1901 census but the you need cert to confirm parents names.

As this is your grandmother who was she mother to and when was the child born as that birth can be looked up and perhaps the marriage is near that date. Also the birth will show mother's maiden name, it could be that she married twice and did not marry to Clayton as Ellen Taylor. Irene

thanks everyone they are the right names there on my mums wedding certificate. I have ordered a birth certificate but I cant wait to solve this problem. Maybe they weren't married.

Thank you Tracy this sounds good. Can't thank you enough. Just need their wedding date now if there is one. Their first child was Henry (harry) but I dont know when he was born early 1920's he was older than my mum she was born 1930 and her sister Lily was born in 1928. thank you again

Hi Susan
a thought has has just crossed my mind as this happend to me.
maybe Ellens was previously married before and put down her first married name down on the birth certs. i came across this on my Husbands dads birth cert as i could not find a marraige for her and it turned out she had used her 1st marraige name on her childrens birth certs instead of her actuall maiden name .
Just a thought.

Regards
Tracy

Hi,

have you tried looking for her as Helen? Don't know about "down South" but this is very common in Scotland Helen and Ellen being interchangeable.
