I am trying to find living family of Harry Marsden, born Salford 1873 son of Margaret Marsden, and his wife Ada Williams daughter of Thomas Stephen Williams a railway clerk.Harry and Ada married in 1894 from 23 Ross Street, Ardwick Manchester.
Harry's father is listed on his marriage cert. as Edward Marsden, Housepainter, but I am 99% sure that Harry was named Henry Stortz, and was the illigitimate son of my Great great grandfather Philip Stortz who had two children by Margaret Marsden, Henry in Salford in 1873 and Albert Christian in Salford in 1875.Albert died the same year.My Great great grandmother Isabella Stortz and her son Philip dissapear without trace after the 1871 census when they were in south Manchester, possibly with another man leaving me to believe that my 2x grandfather and Margaret did not marry, dispite both children having Stortz on their birth certificate.
Margaret Marsdens maiden name was Coleshill, and on the 1881 census a Harry Marsden is living with his Grandma Coleshill in South Manchester , and a Colehill appears on Harrys marriage certificate as a witness. If Harry and Henry are the same person it is possible he was never told he was illigitimate, Margaret's fate is not known.
If anyone could help clear up this mystery for me,i would love to hear from threm.
