Hi, i was hoping someone could have a look at the 1901 census for the following,
Florence May Ball born in shropshire. Her parents were Joseph and Susanna. I dont know exactly what year she was born but i think around 1899 because she married in 1923.
Florence had an older sister sarah ann.

Would have thought this couple were too old for a child born 1899






How do you know the names of the parents?

Florence could have been as young as 14 when she married.

Also place of marriage is no indication of where someone was born

There's a Joseph & Susannah Ball on the 1901 census in Priors Lee, Shropshire but too old to be her parents, they're 64 and 61.

well my nana was born in 1930 and florence was her mother, and joseph and susanna were her parents.

Florence married in blackburn lancashire but she was definately from shropshire(she worked as a nanny in blackburn and met her husband there) and i know florence lived in oaken gates, shropshire, for a long time.

I'm sure there must be a connection to the older Joseph & Susannah. On the 1901 census their daughter Susannah was married to Robert Davies and he was born Oaken Gates as were 2 of their children.

Im confused now! Maybe i should explain because it could be me going wrong somewhere.
My nana, hilda bradshaw, born 1930 in blackburn, told me that her mother was called Florence May Ball and was from Shropshire. Her father was called Joseph Bradshaw and was from blackburn. When florence was working as a nanny in blackburn they met and married. So my nan, and possibly her older sister too, were born in blackburn before they moved back to shropshire.
I know Florence lived in Oakengates for a long time.
My nana doesnt really remember her grandparents on the bradshaw side but both my nan and her sister said that their grandparents on their mothers side were Joseph Ball and Susannah Ball (they said her maiden name was gregory).
I just had a quick look and i've found a birth on free bmd for susannah gregory in 1841.
I wonder if maybe they were older parents or their mothers grandparents?

Yes that is my nana. We have a small version of her birth certificate.
I though that my nana's aunt sarah ann ball would show up on the census because she was older than my nan's mum.

Thanks to Jim and Andy. That info is great and i think its the right family as my nana definately had an aunt called sarah ann because her daughter is still alive.
My nana also mentioned having an uncle called edward- i think she said he died while serving in the army but i could be confused there.

So is Sussanah Gregory also Hannah Gregory? The names could sound similar.

How would i find out what Dinah gregory's maiden name could possibly be? I am going to run all these names by by nana and her sister and see if they ring any bells.
