hi linda, thank you so much for your help. the only information my dad could give me about his grandparents was that john and kate married and had the 5 daughters then kate died and john remarried someone (have no name) and went on to have 2 more children i believe their names might be david and alma, but i am not certain. again thank you so much for your time and effort. tara

This is only a possibilty for Kate's birth...if she was born in Blything...

Name: Kate Ellen Parker
Year of Registration: 1879
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Blything
County: Suffolk
Volume: 4a
Page: 775 (click to see others on page)

I would order the marriage cert first and then you will ascertain her father's name to find her on the census.

There's this death as a possible (it's the first Kate Stannard that I've found from 1914 onwards

Deaths Dec Quarter 1919
Kate Stannard
Age = 39
District = Mutford
Vol = 4a
Page = 1130

Tara Report 10 May 2008 02:24

would i be able to apply for a death certificate with this information?

Hi Tara

You can order the death cert from the GRO site
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp. You need to register and then use the details I posted above. Make sure that you tick the box to say that you have the reference and it'll cost £7. There's a bit of a delay with getting certs out to people at the moment.

I've found a possible for his second marriage but if it's him he married a very short time after the death of the possible Kate!

Marriage June Quarter 1920
John A Stannard
Ethel Bailey
District = Mutford
Vol = 4a
Page = 2881

I've checked births with mother's maiden name Bailey and there aren't any that I can see between MQ1920 & DQ1926. It is possible that this was not Ethel's first marriage but it's difficult to know what her maiden name was without the Stannard/Bailey marriage cert. There is a death for an Ethel Stannard in Chichester in Oct 1987 with birthdate of 25 July 1889. If we assume that Ethel was born in Suffolk then this gives us these possibilities for Ethel with no middlename:

Births Sep 1889
Basham Ethel Risbridge 4a 631
Bird Ethel Sudbury 4a 661
Brown Ethel Bosmere 4a 757
Bruce Ethel Cosford 4a 674
Dalby Ethel Hoxne 4a 750
Hawtin Ethel Stow 4a 719
Howe Ethel Cosford 4a 670
Jackson Ethel Ipswich 4a 812
Manning Ethel Bosmere 4a 758
Markham Ethel Plomesgate 4a 846
Stockings Ethel Plomesgate 4a 839

Of these, there are some Stannard births with mmn Manning so I'll go back and look at the births again and see if I can find an Alma or David with mmn Manning or any other possibles for these two firstnames.

No Alma or David in 1920, 1921 or 1922

hi katherine,
i really appreciate all the time and effort that you have spent helping me. i spoke to my dad today and although he doesnt remember much about his grandparents he remembers his mother telling him that her step mother's sister married a quaker and was very religious. and he seems to think it is correct that his grandfather did actually marry quite quickly after the death of kate. i am now getting my list sorted of the certificates that i need to order from the registery office, lol. can i ask how you can find all this info out as i have a couple of others in my tree that i have come to a holt on and would like to be able to go futher on. again thank you so much for your help. tara

Hi Tara

For BMDs fairly complete upto about 1920 and hit and miss to 1930 you can search on www.freebmd.org.uk where these have been transcribed. For later stuff you need to manually go through the indexes for each quarter until you find a match. This can be done with a subscription to a genealogy site such as ancestry, findmypast etc or by going to Kew or one of the record offices round the country where these indexes are held. If you can give a relatively accurate date, place and names of the person of parents then you could try posting on this site and someone may help you.
