Find Ancestors

Hello, can anyone help me find any further information on my great grandfather and his family? His name was William John Pine, i have his marriage certificate dated 4/8/1919 to Florence Rose Carter in Kensington, London. I cannot find a birth or a death certificate for him. Only other details i have are from his first world war attestation record that i found at Kew, which listed his age as being 21 years and 3 months @ 17/10/1914 (the day he joined up). He is listed as being from Devonport, Devonshire on that record also. His trade was listed as a Carter. His next of kin details were his father listed as being named Henry and living in Notting Hill, London. However this is where some confusion arises. On the marriage certificate he lists his father as being named Ernest Pine. I have no further details on william John Pine other than his descendants. I cannot find him listed on any census so far (atleast not with a father named Henry or Ernest). I have no details on his mothers name or an official birth certificate for him. I would be very grateful if anyone could shed any light on this as i have been stuck on this line of enquiry for 15 years of more now and am truly stuck!
