Thank you so much for that. Yes he was a proffesional footballer. He played for Notts County, I know that as we have his caps, he played Goalie. So that is definitely the one.Hes My husbands G. Grandfather George Toone the 1st, and his son is my husbands Grandfather George Toone the 2nd. Thats where im getting the mix up as on my Mother in laws birth certificate Joan toone, her father George Toone the 2nd is also down as a Proffesional footballer and I dont have any information on his career at all. Only his Dad George as he played for Notts County.

1893, definitely. I was getting him confused with his father being george also. His father is down as being a Licenced Victualler on the marriage certificate.

Father is a trousers presser / tailor

So is he born in 1893 or 1898?

Occupation of father from the marriage cert would be useful.

If age 23 in 1917 why are you asking for George age 2-3 in 1901?

I have now recieved marriage certificate. If someone could look up 1901 census for a GEORGE TOONE. Would be aged 7 or 8.His Father is also GEORGE TOONE. On marriage certificate he is 23 in 1917. I have traced his birth to 1893 in Nottingham. He was married in Nottm too, to a Hilda Baxter........

Just because he married in Nottingham doesn't mean he was born there. People often lied about there age when they married too.

I have got it from the BMDs from his marriage in 1917, and worked backwards on the Births from his marriage year. I know it will might not be the one but it is the only George Toone that came up in Nottingham.
OK. I will wait for certificate to be sure.

The only way to be sure is to get his marriage cert, Sorrythere are too many to choose from, anything else is a guess

Where have you got his birth year from if you haven't found his birth certificate? If you've ordered his birth certificate, how do you know you have the right one without getting the marriage certificate first for his father's name?

If there is someone who can do me a 1901 census look up, for a George Toone born 1893 Nottingham. Sorry I dont have parents name yet. I do know, that he Married a Hilda Baxter in Nottingham 1917.
If I can get him on the 1901, I then have access to all census going backwards.
