Hello, thank you very much for your efforts. Amy Maude is not the correct one. We have her down as Amy Louise, but I didn't give middle name because initial search, using Louisa, kept saying no matches. She was married in 1906 which gave her age as 28. witnesses were Alex James Scott and Alice Louisa Wood. Her gravestone indicates she was 78 when she died which gave her birth year as 1881. I would order her birth cetificate now, but understand that I need both parents to obtain this, or at least place of birth. Is this correct? Thank you in advance for any help forthcoming. Carol

This looks like Amy from the same family in 1891 staying with Aunt and Uncle. She now has middle initial:-

If this was the right family then this is the most likely birth (Woolwich registration district covers Plumstead):-

People don't always give there full name on a marriage certificate. You could always order the birth certificate but stipulate that the father's name must be Charles.

This is the same family that I found above in the 1891 census. The mother is now a widow and living with relatives (her sister and husband). Edith is with her but no sign of Amy:-

Have you found Amy in any of the censuses 1881-1901?

What makes you think she was born c1878?

What are the names of the witnesses on her marriage certificate?

I searched the 1881 census for any Amy Williams born 1878 +/- 5 years with father called Charles. There were only two where there was no middle name given. One in Yorkshire and this one in Greenwich which would be the most likely (although not certain):-

Hi, have hit a brick wall trying to find birth place of my grandmother, Amy Williams and her mothers name. Fathers name is Charles. Amy was born abt.1878. Married James Lee 1906 at West Ham. Died 31st March 1960. I am wishing to obtain her birth certificate but do not have enough info. Marriage certificate stated her father was deceased by 1906. He had been a dock labourer. If anyone can help I will be extremely grateful. Thank you.
