GRO Certificates - How Long - Updated 8th May

Iain001 Report 8 May 2008 14:18

I ordered 2 within an hour of each other, one arrived middle of last week, i'm still waiting for the other (and most important) one.
Instead of looking forward to receiving certificates and the information they hold, it has now become an anxious wait each time which really takes the shine off the whole thing.

Have just spoken with GRO, there is no info on the dispatch, they will look into it, which will take about a week.

They wont even send an email to let me know anything, so another phone call next week.

One day I may receive the Certificate.

Joan I agree with you completely last time I ordered any I ordered 4 and I know that to them £28.00 might not be much but to me it is a lot.

After posting on 29th April, I received the first cert on 30th, still waiting for the second, an overseas birth since 11th April. Just rung GRO from here, "oh" was his reply, it maybe because we dont hold the records for Canada here, I will look into it and e-mail you.

Not holding my breath!

Joan, what is normal in a government 'agency'. I have always believed that the formation of these is not for the benefit of the customer and I think that this latest one just proves my point.

I wonder if it has anything to do with it now been a commercial company?

GRO have no idea what it like pacing the hall for the postman to arrive, its better than birthdays and christmas eagerly waiting for the information that can lead to the next generation. Putting everthing on hold until it arrives !

Hi Linda,

I ordered 3 marriage certs on the 15th April,

I think they were due to be despatched on 22nd, but they all arrived a day apart.

First one last Thursday, then Fri and Sat.

I would ring them and ask where your order is.

Kind regards
Amanda

Hi Linda , Hope this helps you i went on site to check where my certs were and this is what i found...

The General Register Office are currently experiencing high levels of requests for certificates. Although every effort is being made to despatch all orders on time, you may experience an additional one day delay in the despatch of your certificate(s)

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and anticipate that the service will be back to normal from the week beginning 28 April.

Please note that our Priority Service is not affected and all priority orders are continuing to be despatched on time.

From 1 April 2008, the General Register Office became part of the Identity and Passport Service. Please note when purchasing certificates online using a credit/debit card, the transaction will be shown as “Identity and Passport Service” on your bank statement.
