Yes its always good when they stay around the same area. I've traced my Tedford line to 1850 all in Liverpool but I'm stuck before that. i'm wondering if they came over from ireland before that. it's a pain not knowing

Yes I had thought the Robert and Ann a possibility but had not found any more of their children. The family legend comes from my Dads mother and she knew the original John Derwentwater...so I have to give a bit of creedence to it.
As I can find no one else in the family with the name..it could have been an illegitimate line. It is interesting that all my Ratcliffes live in London...which has made them easier to trace!

Yes ...there seem to be a whole string of Mary Anns. John Dos is John Derwentwater....which is what my quest first set out to find. Why did the name Derwentwater suddenly appear? Cant authenticate the family legend about being related to the Earl of Derwentwater. It seems to start here.

herbert disappears in 1901 from the census. He is a witness at his sisters wedding in 1897 and again in1939 when she alters the name on her marriage cert. cant find a marriage for him or death or any military service.

I dont know what you know about herbert radcliffe but here he is in the 1881 census with parents and paternal grandmother
