Born Gateshead, Durham 1896

Can anyone find a marriage for this lady? I think she may have married twice (had two sons by the surname of Wright in the 1930's) but for the life of me I cant find any marriage. Any help appreciated. Thank you.

I'd say this was her first marriage, but the spouse is John Lee:-

Name: Eleanor P M Donnison
Year of Registration: 1914
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
Spouse's Surname: Lee
District: Gateshead
County: Durham, Tyne and Wear
Volume: 10a

This is just one possibility for John Lee's death:-

Name: John Lee
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1887
Year of Registration: 1918
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
Age at Death: 31
District: Gateshead
County: Durham, Tyne and Wear
Volume: 10a
Page: 2073

You would need the marriage certificate to find out his approximate age at marriage to know whether this death was a possible.

Thank you Kathleen. Believe it or not I usually help others when researching but this one had me stumped. Now trying to find Raymond Wright born 1934 Gateshead!

No Kathleen, neither can I which is ridiculous as I know the man and he tells me he was, how frustrating. I know his father was called Walter and he also had a brother called Walter. Maybe I will search Northumberland rather than Durham. thank you so much for your help.

Here is Raymond's birth:-

Raymond Wright, mmn Donnison
Dec. qtr. 1933, Gateshead, 10a, 1165

He must be telling fibs about his age, lol.

Kathleen you are a genuis!!! I have looked for this for ages - and I thought I was pretty good at this! Sometime we look too hard dont we? Thanks again. Now all I need is a Wright/Donnison marriage and I'm cooking with gas!!

Just out of interest where did you find it, I have looked on Ancestry and even with the page no and volume its still not finding it for me.

Have you thought that they may not have married? Between the wars there were a lot of marriage breakups and because divorce was expensive and difficult to get, lots of couples just split up and lived as man and wife with a second partner.

Are you looking on the complete index or just the transcribed index? It's the complete index that you need where you have to look at every qtr. of every year around the time you think the birth is.

Yeah, I have thought that Kathleen but soooooo many people refuse to believe their parents didnt marry dont they? I find time and again when searching for others that they just wont accept it. So, like you say its a possibility they didnt marry.

How do I do that kathleen, I tend to just put in the qtr ie jan-feb-mar and then the date - is that not right?

I only suggested it because i searched for years for my husband's parent's marriage (we knew his father had been married previously). They were a very staid, old fashioned couple and I couldn't believe they would not be married, but after searching for about 5 years and finding nothing I had more or less come to the conclusion they didn't marry. Then, just last Christmas an elderly cousin of my husband told us that she had always known that they had not married and that hubby's grandmother (his mother's mother) wasn't very pleased when the first wife got the money that hubby's mother was expecting from the army!!!

For births you need to go to this page:-

http://content.ancestry.co.uk/iexec/?htx=List&dbid=8964&offerid=0%3a7858%3a0

Then put in the name and year you think the birth was and click on search and you will get four quarters which you have to click on View for each one. You have to have a subscription to look at these.
