1901 mystery man.......

Andrew Report 27 Apr 2008 15:44

Hi, Please could anyone help me to locate the following two people on 1901 Census

SAMUEL LUNGLEY
MARGARET ROSE LUNGLEY (nee BASEDEN)

They were married March quarter in 1900. (St Saviour 19 199)

I have a birth certifcate for one of their daughters, RUTH EMMA LUNGLEY born 27th October 1905

I can't find either parent on 1901. At the time of Ruth's both they lived at 28 Beaconsfield Road Walthamstow.

It seems a mystery that they're not there. Does anyone have access to addresses for 1901 Census please?

I would be glad of any help.

Many thanks

Andy

Sorry, I can't find them. According to the marriage index her name is Rosa Margaret and not Margaret Rose.

Hi Julie,

Sorry, the only information I have been able to research is:

Samuel Percy Lungley was born 1879 Southwark
Margaret Rose Lungley (nee Baseden) was born 1873 Brighton

Margaret's parents were Frederick Baseden & Katherine Rose

Guess I'll have to send for the marriage certificate. It just seem odd that they're not on 1901 Census.

Thanks for you support. I am very appreciative of your help.

Hi Glitter baby,

This looks promising. I have just looked again at their daughter's birth certificate (Ruth Emma Lungley) and Mum IS Rosa Margueritta.

As Rosa's mum's name is Rosa E on 1891, I guess it could be Rosa Emma and this name was passed on the her daughter! What do you think?

Thanks also to everyone else on this mission!!

Hi everyone,

Good point Angela, thanks for advice, that birth was only speculation..... one to be tried and tested.

I will save everyone's hard work then send for Marriage certificate I think.

Thank you once again to EVERYONE who has so kindly helped me this afternoon.

There's a Samuel Lungley, b1866, on the WW1 records on Ancestry. His address is given as 82a Turner Rd., Walthamstow. Could this be your Samuel? It should give next of kin & dependants on the image.

I've got to go & sort the dinner now, but may be back later.

UPDATE

Have just checked, his wife is Rosa Margaret, nee Baseden. He has a daughter Ruth.

I think Samuel was a carreer soldier. Looks like he first enlisted in 1886, gave father's name as William, Honey Pot lane, Wix, Essex.
When he was discharged in 02 his address was 9 Mermaid Court, Borough S E. ( the same address where I found Rosa Marg't in 1901)

Hi Angela & Margaret.

This really is so kind of you both to continue searching. What dedication! I am indeed very grateful.

I'm not a member of Ancestry so please could you tell me about the WW1 Records. Are they like CWGraves? How come there is detail about his daughter, Ruth?

What are his attestation papers and how can I access these myself? Seems some difference in the marriage date as I have the marraige as March quarter 1900. I will check that on freebmd. The dates for Ruth's birth as identical to her birth certificate so we know we have the right one!!

Lastly, please could you mail me the Census reference numbers for 1891 and 1901.

Thank you SO much for all your help. I am preparing a tree for Ruth's son's birthday in June and had come to a standstill so you can imagine how delighted I am to receive all the details you have found for me.

Kind regards,
Andy
