Too funny!!!

Sylvia -- I only mentioned Florence Eunice because it was when we'd recently tag-teamed, and here we were doing it again.

Did *you* realize that Florence Eunice also belonged to Wendy here??

I didn't! I find there are so many people with the same board names, I don't even try to remember whether one person is the same as another. Had no clue until I just got another of Wendy's lovely PMs, and I looked at the list of our correspondence ... and there was her lovely PM about Florence Eunice.

I'm now in the process of trying to instruct Wendy in how to post in her own danged threads. ;)

Hi Kath

......... notice I didn't give Wendy Mr Strudwick's name, although I found him easily on the censuses? He did die before 1901.

I thought I would let Wendy have the fun of finding the information on freebmd ....... it is free and available for her.

Then I can post the censuses!

sleep tight, I'm just going to bed!!

Ah, the 70-yr-old bigamist Arthur Piedot would be:

Auther Ridot

in the 1871.

If Wendy subscribes to Ancestry, she'll be wanting to fix a few of those.

If you don't, Wendy, you could PM me or Sylvia an email address (get an anonymous one at http://www.gmail.com) and we can make the corrections and include the contact info for you, so anybody related who then finds the people in the censuses can get in touch.

JaneyCanuck Report 14 Apr 2008 05:07

Ah, you left me in your dust.

I was off looking for Piedots in general, being curious about the origin of the name. I got sidetracked by Arthur Piedot -- in 1891, said (by Ancestry) to be a 70-year-old bigamist when he was actually a 30-year-old ordinary young married man.

Yet another instance of Ancestry assigning one of the hundreds of women (and their children) who were "wife" on the census record and whose husbands weren't at home to the nearest male head of household. My gr-grfather was assigned a spare wife and her kids in 1891, and my grmother's sister's husband's father, on my other side, was assigned a spare wife and kids that year too. It's an atrocity. You'd think the whole world was a Mormon.

So I didn't find those Piedots, but I found a fake one and fixed her so her own descendants may one day be able to find her!

nyah nyah!

Wendy needed to meet FreeBMD! But looking for mistranscriptions can be a bit tough for a newbie, so that one was for free. But I'm still gonna let her find the marriages for herself!

And kudos to us on Florence Eunice whatsit too, I gather. ;)

It's a piece of pie to find that marriage!

Go to

http://www.freebmd.org.uk

and search for a marriage using just the surnames, Piedot and Strudwick.

I'll let you do it so I don't spoil your fun of finding it -- you'll need to anyway, because you'll have to look at the original image (click on the page number and then on the spectacles icon beside each of their names) to make sure the numbers etc. have been correctly transcribed.

If you get the marriage certificate, it will give you the spouses' fathers' names and occupations.

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates

The only Emma Piedot birth at FreeBMD was in 1892. Could that have been a first married surname for Emma?

If you search for a marriage using only

surname: piedot
spouse's given name: emma

you'll find an Emma marrying a Piedot in Brighton in 1855, and that looks like it might be her parents.

So suspecting mistranscription, we search for any Emma born in Brighton in 1856, and I'll give you this one. ;)

Births Mar 1856 (>99%)
PEIDOT Emma Brighton 2b 200

That one, you do need to check the original, before ordering the certificate, to see whether it's wrong in the original or it's the transcription that's wrong.

Hope that helps!

Wendy
