Hi Everyone,

He didn't have a middle initial. Thanks everyone anyway, I'll have to leave him for a bit, and come back to him at a later date.

I appreicate all your help.

If he was from Scotland I'm afraid I don't have access to those records

Don't know what to suggest, don't suppose he had a middle initial, all you will know is his father's name from the marriage cert.

Hi,

No nothing, thats why I'm struggling, all I have is his marriage certificate, as apparently after the end of WW2, he returned home for a couple of years, and then left the family, and apparently went "back" to Scotland.

I really don't know what to do next.

ChristineinPortugal

ChristineinPortugal Report 1 Apr 2008 12:13

He could have been born anywhere as it's quite a popular name and there are a few in the years either side of 1914.

Do you have his death cert with an age to compare?

Hi

Yes!! you are right, I have just sorted out the certificate and I have entered the date wrong on my family tree?!!!!!!!!!!! What an idiot I am.
I'm so sorry for that.
Shows how mistakes are easily done!
Her name is Charlotte Lottie Mernagh.
Thanks.
Any ideas on finding William Blair?

I haven't checked from her angle? Strange that shes not there either?!
I had the marriage certificate off another relative, its the original one.
It has her brother, Edward Mernagh as the witness.

Have checked 1936 (on ancestry) for Charlotte no marriage for her either, strange!

Angela Report 1 Apr 2008 11:50

Hi Linda,
Thanks for checking.
I do have his marriage certificate in front of me.
He married on the 28th April 1936, at the parish church, birmingham, Miss Charlotte Mernagh, her DOB 29/3/1914.
If you are checking on freebmd, like me, I also cannot find any other record for him, thats my problem, other than his marriage, I cannot find any other trace of him!

I have looked through the complete images for 1936, all four quarters. there is no William Blair marrying anyone of that name in England in that year at all.

Hi Christine,
Thanks for the link, I have searched on there and there isn't anything for William Blair, 1914.
I have also tried Scotlands people, as there was a tale he could be from Scotland, but again with no luck!
Any other ideas?
Ta Angela.

You would need to get his marriage certificate as this would tell you how old he was, so you could work out his year of birth, then look for his birth.
the problem is that I can't see a marriage in Ap- June 1936 for Mernagh, or in the following quarter in case it was registered late

Hi Angela,

You can search free on this website, most records have been transcribed 1837-1920 and some as far as 1925 and they are adding all the time.

Many thanks for your help.
Could I be cheeky and ask if you could find any information on another relative, this man I cannot find a year of birth to obtain his birth certificate.

William Blair

All I know is his date of marriage to Miss Charlotte Mernagh, 28/4/1936, in Birmingham.

Any help would be great.
Kind regards, Angela.

The ref & date is all there for you to get the birth cert.

That info was obtained from the FreeBMD web-site
