Thank you both - I am beginning to piece this together
William & Margaret Addy left UK in 1868 with 3 children,Mary,(?b.1865 Stalybridge)Joshua & Thomas

3 children born in US
Benjamin,Albert &Arthur
( William's father in my tree was called Joshua & his brothers Benjamin & Thomas)

Albert died 1865

Margaret d.1886
William re married Elizabeth in 1888

Children's marriages were
Addy Arthur New Bedford 1908
Addy Benjamin New Bedford 1895
Addy Joshua New Bedford 1886 370
Addy Mary New Bedford 1889 397
Addy Thomas New Bedford 1893 433 207

Elizabeth Addy ( clark) d.1907 ( this could be william's 2nd wife ( thanks for the link lisa J)
William is listed as marriage in 1908 which would possibly be Matilda?

Thank you both for all your help- still not positive this is definitely the original William & Margaret from my tree but looking hopeful!

Hi Rose. :) Hubby will be home soon. Have to dash around, so he won't know how long I've been sitting here. ;)

P.S. There are WWI records and I believe other (later) census information; but didn't include those, as I wasn't sure it was your family.

There were other Addy's mentioned on the link; perhaps those are connected to Thomas. Must get back to cleaning now. :( (Couldn't pull myself away earlier.)

Thank you Lisa J & Rose for all this information.
William's occupation on 1861 UK census was cotton power loom weaver so that is possibly a link. I am not positive these are the same Addysbut when looked on 1880 Us census william's daughter Mary's birthplace was Stalybridge. Also believe that William's sibling( Thomas) emigrated to US in 1866
Thanks again

Addy Albert New Bedford 1885 364 139 Death

Addy Isabella E. New Bedford 1897 472 310 Death
Addy Melvyn A. New Bedford 1898 481 279 Death

Believe that's all of the New Bedford deaths.

According to 1900 census, William remarried c1887. Margaret, listed above, could be his first wife.

Using the above link, you can also view birth and marriage indexes. Marriage index is fairly interesting. :)

During your searches, what spelling variations have you seen for Addy? I can try those variations for the immigration records.

Did William have an occupation while in England?

Did his parents stay there?

New Bedford, Massachusetts Directories, 1887, 1889-90
Name: Wm. Addy
City: New Bedford
State: MA
Occupation: weaver
Year: 1887
Location 2: 156 Durfee

I would think it's possible to be married for 13 years.

Are you "sure" the Addy's in 1880 are "your" Addy's?

New Bedford Directory, 1873-74
Addy, William, weaver, h. 2 Hazard ct.

New Bedford Directory, 1871
Addy, William, weaver, house 1 Austin court

This is part of the family in 1900:
1900 United States Federal Census
Name: William Addy
Home in 1900: New Bedford Ward 2, Bristol, Massachusetts
Age: 60
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1840
Birthplace: England
Relationship to head-of-house: Head
Spouse's Name: Elizebeth
Race: White
Immigration Year: 1860
Household Members:
Name Age
William Addy 60, Apr 1840, # of years married: 13, born England; Expressman
Elizebeth Addy 60, Apr 1840, married 13 years, mother of how many children: 0; born England, immigration 1868
Arthur Addy 22, son, May 1878, birthplace: Massachusetts, Spinner

I believe immigration year is 1868. Must be: "number of years in the U.S.: 32"

Looks like Elizabeth wasn't Arthur's mother. She was born in England, as were her parents.
Arthur's father was born in England; mother was born AT SEA.
Arthur is shown as son to WIlliam.

The family is living at 27 Durfer. 1880 census for Addy's shows 841 Durfer? Street.

1880: I don't see any reference to Stalybridge on the 1880 census.

Mary b.1865 Stalybridge
Thomas 1867
All above born in England

Benjamin b.1871 Mass
