Thank you all for your help, I cannot find Mary Parkes birth anywhere because I would send off for her birth certificate. If anyone can find it for me I would be grateful.

Yes Reg it is the same women because I briefly had contact with a descendent of the daughter of the first marriage, and no I cannot find her on the 1851 census. I have found William Tucknott on both the 1841 and 1851 but I cannot find Mary.

Do you have her birth cert?

Is it possible that she was illegitimate and mother married William Parkes. Then, at some point - after her first marriage - mother told her her real father's name?

Bit of a longshot but if you try and find mum's details it might clarify things.

Are you 100% certain that both certs refer to the same woman?

Have you found her on 1851 census? And 1841?

When and where was she born?

My 2 x great grandmother Mary Parkes was married twice first time in 1858 to Cornelius Stevens and then in 1862 to Jesse Fowler. She was widowed when she married for the second time. I have recently received both marriage certificates and I am confused.
On the first certificate it gives her fathers name as William Parkes a labourer and on the second certificate 4 years later her fathers name is William Tucknott a shepherd
Can anyone give me an explanation as to what could have happened.

Diane
