Message for Jane Fletcher. Hi Jane. I've just read your email dated 07/072003 and sent a reply. Because it was so long ago I don't know if you will receive it, so I'll write it again here in the hope that you may pick it up.
I had a great aunt named Kathleen Hoare (nee Wilcox) (known as aunt Pop, for Poppy). She had a son Francis, and daughters Pat and Mary. I was at Pat's wedding when she married an American Air Force Captain Anthony (Tony) Kren or Kruen. At the time of her marriage she had a daughter, Jackie from a previous relationship. Mary was married to Pete Evans who died a few years ago. I can't remember their children's names.
Jane, was your mother's name Linda and have you got a brother? I'm sorry, I can't remember his name. A Francis and LInda used to visit my grandmother Lilian Hope Butcher (nee Bland) Kathleen's sister who was married to a Thomas (Tommy) Butcher, and my great grandmother Mary Ann Wilcox (nee Bland). They lived in North Road, Queenborough, on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent. Lilian had 3 children, Joan Marguerite Chew (nee Bland), Gillian Megan Butcher, (Jill) and Peter Butcher (wife Edie, children Anthony, Colin, Christopher, Mandy and Timothy). Jill married Ronald (Ron) Timson and had one child Fiona Dawn, Joan married Charles Albert (Charlie) Chew, and had one daughter Janette Diane (me).
Kathleen's great grandparents were Eliza and John Bland, children Mary Ann and William. Mary Ann born about 1882 and William about a year later. Kathleen's siblings were Lilian Hope, Eric, (married to Elsie - children Hazel, Anita, Terry and Andrew) Owen (married to Connie, I can't remember much about them I'm afraid), Violet (known as Viley, married to a Vic Grenaway, children Vic Jnr, Eleanor and Valerie (married to Fred Goddard - children Martin and Mark)), Peter Harry, Herbert Francis (known as Willie for Wilcox.) Willie lived with Lilian and Tommy. I was told that Kathleen's father, who I know nothing much about (not even a forename) used to call the girls his flowers, which was why Kathleen was also known as 'Pop' short for 'Poppy'. I also heard that he was a widower who had 4 children from his first marriage (one may be Bob (Robert?), another Mark?) I don't know any more than that.
Francis and Linda sometimes used to stay in a caravan or tent on a campsite at Minster or Leysdown on the Isle of Sheppey. I can remember visiting them with my parents when they had a huge tent that had separate rooms in it. In field nearby were some donkeys that Jane (you perhaps)? was fascinated with and used to go and see every day. The family also used to visit my parents and I at Dumergue Avenue, in Queenborough. I think granny Wilcox (Mary Ann) used to live at Kingwood Common, and Shiplake Bottom . I didn't know great granny Bland, although my Mum (Joan) lived with her and granny Wilcox until she was about 7 or 8). My father still lives in Dumergue Avenue, my mother unfortunately died on 3 March 2006.
If your parents were Francis and Linda, without upsetting anyone, can I ask if years ago, (before you were born I think) they were ever involved in a very bad car accident with a lorry or a truck carrying a large towing hook that took out the side of the car? The ones that I knew were. If it is the same family, I think we may be some sort of cousins, (second or third perhaps) I''m not sure how these relationships are worked out. Also was Kathleen's mother 's date of birth 3 June, and her sister Lilian's 9 April?
Regards.
Janette
