Looking for any descendants of John Henley and Clara Jane Redman who emigrated to Christchurch, NZ, in 1874 on the "Hereford". John was a tailor born in Brighton in 1844. Not to be confused with another John Henley born 1843, also a tailor from Brighton, who arrived in Christchurch with his wife Amy and daughter Clara in 1876.
Our John and Clara Jane had at least 8 children, mostly girls. Clarice (b1873) married John Burns in 1893 and, after his death, Alexander Innes in 1902. Nellie (b1878) married Jacob Dubbelt. Annie (b1880) married William Wilmot. Helena (b1882) married George White. Florence (b1885) married Andrew Canning. That's as far as we've got.
.......... OK 11/11/2009. Have got a bit further. Now in touch with Anna Dubbelt in Auckland, and have also established that Russell Crowe is a third cousin, descended from Clarice Henley..
Now SORTED! Not only identified them all, but this year in New Zealand we have met members of all the surviving branches of the family - except the Crowes who now live in Australia.
