Thank you for your information, i had been pm'd this before i got the marriage certificate and worked out it was the right one as i'd been sent the 1891 census too. Mary H is actually Johns sister marrying Herbert in late 80s. How can i be sure that this is my great grandfather though????

Thank you for your help but John and Mary didn't marry until 1914 so i know they won't be together on the 1911 census. Also there first three children were born in Ashton, Lancashire between 1914 and 1919 and my grandfather was born in Leeds in 1926.

I had to go shopping, but I thought that I had got them on the Irish 1911 censes as there were a lot of U.K. people here then.
I do have a JOHN AND MARY BRADLEY living in Dublin, also some Johns who would be the age of your Grandfather and Henrys also a Sarah widow with her son William from Yorkshire.
If you like I could go into town to-morrow and check their daughters birth to see what the mothers maiden name was so then you could eliminate them from your search.
I must get down and do my husbands tree he never knew his parents either but had a baptismal cert. our censes says born in Dublin,then Cork and now the true place Birmingham, I would love to be a fly on the wall.

In that case i have a John Humphrey Bradley born 1883 in Ashton Lancashire but could this really be 5 years out? Surely the person who was getting married would know how old they were???

a cuttler/cutler was a knife seller or sharpener

Yes Vera this is definately my grandad, born 01/10/1926 his name is John Humphrey Bradley and on his birth certificate it says that his father is also called John Humphrey Bradley although on his marriage certificate to Mary Wootton his middle name isn't mentioned.

It definately says he was 26 years old, his father (Henry) was also down as been a cuttler whatever they were.

I'm not really sure about any of the above but thank you anyway to the people who have tried to help. At the moment i'm very confused. This is my fathers side of the family, i have never met my father so don't know alot. I did know that his father was called John Humphrey Bradley and on purchasing my fathers birth certificate found that his mothers name. I then purchased my grandparents marriage certificate and my grandfathers birth certificate and found that my great grandparents are John Bradley and Mary Wootton. I found there marriage and recieved the certificate yesterday. John Bradley is down as been 26 years old on the 23/06/1914 i'm presuming he was born in Ashton, Lancashire as this is where he was married.

Found Henry Bradley aged 30, a Spin Joiner. Born Lancs, Little - wood?
Wife, Mary, 28, born Blackburn, Lancs.
John, son, aged 2.
James, son, aged 1.
