I am trying to find more information on William Holmes born 1774 in Kent. In 1800 in the Parish of Greenwick he stole property from John Brough and was sentenced to death. This was changed to transportation and he was sent to New South Wales in 1801 on the ship EARL OF CORNWALLIS. He was granted a conditional pardon 31 January 1816 and moved to Richmond in New South Wales. He married Sarah Haynes and they had 3 children; Jane Holmes, William Holmes and Margaret Holmes, all born in Parramatta, NSW. Now the mystery to all this is did he change his surname before leaving England? Some data I have found indicates that his name was William Linn and that his father was William Linn and mother Martha Scott. If he was indeed Holmes can anyone provide me with the correct details for his parents? |
