just searched for it and some have come up with the surname sheriff

Yes ,I worked with a guy with the surname Scarff in the 1970/80s so its still ongoing
have seen it spelt Scarf,Scarfe, wonder whether they signed the marriage cert or were illiterate, then would depend on spelling the enumerator or priest decided it was spelt

i guess you need the cert for her dads name to pin her down,(maybe) on the census
