HENRY LAMBERT – born abt 1848 Turks Island

Lou Lambert Report 4 Mar 2008 14:55

Most of my knowledge about my Henry Lambert (abt 1848) comes from the British Census and his marriage licence.

According to the British Census 1881, 1891 and 1901 he was born in the Turks Island – West Indies. Worked either as a General Laborer or Coal Porter. All living in West Ham, Essex.

He married to Maachah Moyes (also known as Hannah on census) (born abt 1849) on 5th December 1875. His father also Henry Lambert is listed (on certificate) as deceased but profession is Seaman. Address for Henry (1848) is listed as 14 Star Lane, Plaistow, West Ham, Essex, England. It appears he can not write as I have His Mark on the certificate.

Henry and Maachah have three children Frances (1877-1888), John (1880- ) and Edward (3 Aug 1881-1932) Born and died in West Ham.

Edward married Ada Emily Wetherly on 1st December 1906 and Henry Lambert (1848) is listed on there Marriage Certificate Profession of father – Coal Porter.

Edward and Ada had three children Edward (1905), Ada (1911) and my Grandad Charlie (9 Sep 1917-1976).

The problem I’m having is finding Henry (1848) before he was married, when and why did he come to the UK? Was he indeed born in the Turks Islands and are there any records? Where do I look?

I apologies for the length of this, I thought perhaps the more information I was able to give the higher the chances of some one able to help.

If anyone can shed any light on Henry Lambert I would be very grateful.

Living in hope

Louise
