Alice Marsh, possibly born Dover, approx. 1880. My first record of her is the birth of a son, Alexander Stuart Mulraney, in Dover on 28/01/1900. Alice is shown as the wife of Edward Mulraney. Edward was from Bolton, Lancashire and was in the army, stationed in Dover.

I've been unable to find a marriage certificate for them and Edward's army records no longer exist.

Edward is on the 1901 census in barracks in Dover, but there's no trace of Alice or baby Alexander anywhere, despite all sorts of name variant searches.

Alice and Edward had 7 children in all, some in Dover and then in Bolton, the last one being born in 1915.

One of the younger children remembers being taken to Dover by Alice during the first world war. They stayed with a sister of Alice called Nellie (Ellen?) in Churchill Street. A directory search showed an Annie Ellen Norris living in Churchill Street with her father Walter William Marsh. I've been able to find out a lot about that family, but no trace of Alice, so that may well be a coincidence.

Alice left her family shortly after the first world war and they never heard from her again, or knew where she went.

Does anybody know anything about her? We would like to find out when and where she was born and what happened to her after she left her children.

Thanks,

Elaine Estall
