So, so many thanks to all of you. I sent the message then had to leave my desk for an hour. It could well be that Elzabeth died or even got married, but the fact that Frederick went into the workhouse may suggest she died. I will try and locate work house records. I do know that Elzabeth was not married when she had Frederick.

Do you know if there were any other children prior to 1851? Was Elizabeth married prior to 1845 (approx. date of birth of Frederick).

My recommendation is to obtain a copy of Frederick's birth certificate and confirm the names of father and/or mother.

It's also possible that the father may have been away finding work and Elizabeth and Frederick went to live with her sister and husband in 1851. Unless we know Frederick's father's name, you really are only guessing at this point.

Joan, I did the original lookups and Elizabeth Monk was unmarried on the 1851 and was listed as wife's sister to head of house.

She was also with that family in 1841.

Had a good look for Elizabeth, but can't see her thou

I have below the 1851 census for the Monk members of my family. Through the help of other Genes member I have been able to follow on with later census for Frederick. I would like to be able to find Elizabeth Monk (his mother below age 33) on the 1861 and if not died the 1871 census.
