Joan,

Go on the National Archives (Kew) site, abit complicated till you find your way around but they do have a searchable database for medal cards etc, and pre WW1 service people.

When do you mean? If he was discharged before 1854 his name might be on the indexed series WO97 on the National Archives website. If after that, then his records may be at National Archives. Not online, you'd have to go there, or get someone to go for you. The Veterans Agency will not be able to help - they have later records, not pre WW1

This may be of use: From the CWGC site - it gives his service number and burial info. You were a year out on his death. I dont think his service records would hold a lot - at 19 he wouldnt have had a lot of years service, poor little devil. You can get them for about £30 but have to be his next of kin.

Jackie has pmd that she already has the CWGC info and knows how to get service records.

Without buying the records, no there would be no way you could learn any more.

I expect you also know that you can join sites like Forces Reunited.
