Claire have you got the certificate and sorted out the twins now?

Hi Christopher,

The only information I have on Thirza is her maiden name (Johnson) and a marriage to Samuel Francis Kirby. None on her parents/grandparents.

I happen to have a few Thirza/Thursa/Thirsas in my tree, and my grandmother had this as a middle name. It is a form of Theresa I believe.

Thirza is a rather unusual name
Does anyone have info on her ?

Reason I ask is I have a Thirza Barstow 1811-1899 in my tree . Could this be Thirzas mother/gran ?

Thanks Potty, that's a great help, I really hope that this is her, she's been confusing me from the very beginning, haha!

If the cert for Doris is the correct one, if it has a time of birth on it that would indicate that she was a twin.

In that case, it might be worth phoning the office where the birth was registered and asking them if they can find another twin. Somebody on here a while ago had a similar problem - two sisters of the same age on the census but only one birth found. She contacted the local office and they confirmed that they were twins. For some reason the second one had been omitted from the GRO index - it does happen.

Thanks Potty,

I'm just so confused now, will order these certificates and try and find out what's going on!

Thanks everyone, think I'll have to look into these a little more, perhaps the family, for some reason, gave the rest of the family some wrong information about these twins and it was in fact Doris and Charles (who no one has ever heard of or mentioned - perhaps died young?) and Joyce came later.

Hi Susan,

I do not think this is her twin, it was definitely another female. Doris had other siblings: Joyce, Gertrude, Alec, Ernest, George (twin of Ernie), Vera and Victor.

I will look into this one Janice, thank you,

Hi Linda,

I do not know death dates for them yet - hadn't thought of looking for those, how silly of me! Joyce's married name I believe was Dalton. Doris's married name was definitely Wood.

Hi Jackie,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the marriage I could find and I found a couple of Doris Emily's born around the time I thought it would be, but, like you, no Joyce.

Joyce was always known as either Joyce or Aunt Jo, I do not know a middle name or even initial to try and link to a birth and I have no one left to ask in the family who knows. It's so very confusing!

Is there any other way to find out when they were born?

I have found the same as Jacqueline. Do you have any info on their deaths and work backwards? We will need to know their married names for that.

Hi all,

Trying desperately to find when my great grandmother and her sister were born and getting nowhere! They were twins, which I thought would make it easier, but I just can't find them at all! Keep thinking I've found one and then the other twin isn't registered! Can anyone help please?

Names: Doris E Kirby and Joyce Kirby
Born Between: 1905 and 1910 (probably)
Born: Around the Lambeth area in London (probably)
Born to: Samuel Kirby and Thirza Johnson

Thanks,
Claire
