Find Ancestors

I am looking for information about Ellen Goller b:1854 and lived in Fulham, London England.

Ellen married Michael Clarn, a plaisterer (plasterer) and they in Fulham with their family.

Ellen may have been Goller - Gollar - Galagher - as all appear in the baptism records of her children.

I'm sure she was born in London - but of course it could have been Ireland!

Does anyone know?

If you cannot find a marriage index then you might need to find a childs birth index and if you get the certificate it should have mothers maiden name

Oh well done everyone - but eek, a lot of Irish names there.

What amazing results...thank you all, this is just fantastic news for me. What a discovery! I always knew there was an Irish connection but could never place it.
My Grandfather Peter Clarn came to Australia in 1912 and used talk about his Irish roots. I knew his father was Michael Clarn and mother Ellen Goller, and that he was born in Fulham, but this makes it all clearer.
Sadly, he died when I was a child and I never got the whole story.

I appreciate all of the help that everyone so generously offers but i have another question.

I have been finding variations on the spelling of Daniel and Honorah's surname. Goller - Gollar - Gallagher - Golliher - Gollihar. How do I know which is corerct, especially when trying to trace siblings or other ancestors?

I am having the same issues with Michael Clarn. Callan - Calan - Callon - Clarnon.

How do you work it out please?

Hard one that ,census, birth/marriage/death are all recorded by someone being told the name and as people couldn't read or write then they wouldn't know if it was spelt right if they saw it written down.
I put the minimum into a search
i.e first name ,approx year and place perhaps first few letters of surname

Ok, so that's straight forward for England where Michael and Ellen were born, but trying to find anything about Michael Callan's parents who came from Ireland is a tad more tricky as I don't know the area they came from.
With Michael and Ellen I knew where they lived to start my search.

Any ideas?

I don't know much about Irish records only that a lot were destroyed in a fire so i dont know where to suggest you start ,perhaps a new thread explain you have English census details just looking for for Irish details so you don't get the above again.you could put in the link for this thread so they can see whats been found

you could try this free site but some records are extracts so they are details straight from records and others submitted and not always correct it tells you on the page the which it is, worth a look

Along shot but with all the spellings i wonder about this possible marriage index.Achilds birth cert is really the only way to find mothers maiden name but

so could Conner be Enorah. The way they have been transcribed as male or female is by the age in the male/female boxes and these have been altered in some boxes on the page so it is possible.
