Gillian Farndell Report 30 Jan 2008 22:22

HI Bernice
The Marraige certificate didnt say she was born in Salford it was my Auntie who said she came from Eccles Salford way as her age on the wedding certificate in 1915 it stated that she was 18 and charles faudels which should be farndell/farndale 21 and he was a soldier which would make her year of birth as 1897 my husband has found 1 which may be a possible and it says charles webster with a daughter rose e webster in the 1901 census with Amelia as his wife but it states she were born in derbyshire but I dont think this is her
Ihave also found a Charles William Webster
on a IGI FAMILY SEARCH
on the 1st may 1870batch no co73547 1866-1870 source call no 0438181 and his parents were john webster and rose webster so maybe this one could be it its all slighty confusing Thank you to everyone for there help its really appreciated
Kind Regards
Gillian Farndell

Hi Gillian - I saw the 1901 with Stephen Halliwell, he shows as married (oh yes - wheres the wife then) and Annie shows as married. I looked at marriages and guess what:-

Marriage

Name: Annie Webster - Stephen Halliwell
Year of Registration: 1913
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
Spouse's Surname: Halliwell
District: Salford
County: Greater Manchester, Lancashire
Volume: 8d
Page: 15

======================================

I dont think Annie was married - it was just a cover I believe and certainly cannot find a Charles Webster marrying an Annie at all.

I looked at earlier census and Annie was aged 17 - with the name Webster and single and working as a servant.

Incidentally Annie came from Stafffordshire.

1901 Living at 24 Gibson Street, Pendleton

Stephen Halliwell (Dye & Print worker) abt 1878 Salford, Lancashire, England Head Pendleton, Lancashire

Annie Webster (Housekeeper) abt 1874 Samallthorme, Staffordshire, England Housekeeper Pendleton, Lancashire

Rose Webster abt 1897 Pendleton, Lancashire, England Housekeepers daughter Pendleton, Lancashire

*****************************************************
I personally believe the marriage in Stockport is right and that Rose Ann was born in Salford.

I would get the Salford born Rose Ann certificate - and also the marriage certificate if you want to prove anything.

Good luck
Bernice

I can only find Rose with mother and a man called stillwell as head, maybe Charles is away at war? Too much guessing only a cert will do. No not a star just a twinkle!

Spelling mistakes are common on handwritten certs, it just goes to show how we are led astray.
You will need to order that birth cetificate for Rose to be sure of her parents.I will have a look at 1901 census to see if there's a charles Webster with young Rose in the area.

Lindsey* Report 30 Jan 2008 19:04

Dont forget the church area and electoral areas and registration areas wont all say stockport they cunningly have different names, so dont pin all you searches on one place name. What does it say for the marriage/registry place?
What is her age on the cert?and the date they were wed?

Bernice

Bernice Report 30 Jan 2008 18:56

Gillian - I think your going to have to put you hand in your pocket and buy that marriage certificate, no-one can answer your question unless you know who her father was. It may be wrong of course but all of us have had to do this at times and take a chance - its possible of course she moved to Stockport, I dont believe its that far away.

I cannot find a birth in Stockport area of a Rose Ann Webster but there are lots of them born in various places including London.

If you do know who her father is then let me know and I may be able to help.

Kind regards
Bernice

Gillian Farndell Report 30 Jan 2008 18:32

Hi there I was wondering wether you could help me.Im searching for a Rose Ann Webster whose birth was around 1897.
Apparantly she married a Charles Farndell/Farndale in Stockport but not sure as im findinfg it hard to search for both of them in the Stockport area but I do know that they married in Stockport if its the correct one that I found its just that I cant find them in the censu's with either the parents but I was told by an Auntie that rose came from Eccles but Im not convinced there is one in Salford around that date.Any help would be extremely appreciated.
Kind Regards
