Hi Gavin.

You need to use the freebmd site to find birth, marriage and death records. Then using the information on there you can order certificates (it will become necessary to do this from time to time, there is no way round it).

www.freebmd.org.uk

If you only "believe" your great-grandparents had these names you really need the birth cert of one of their children to confirm this before you go any further, as Freewheel says.
Certs are obtained from the GRO (general records office) and cost £7.

Gavin.

We all start off thinking we can find our relatives without costing us any money. However we soon learn this is not a cheap hobby, but if we really want to find our past we had to buy certs working back form what was known.

Even close family ( mother )can get the information wrong as I have proved. Guessing is just wasting your time and that of others trying to help you because you could be following the wrong family. You need paper proof

The only births on freebmds for Walsh with mother Ward

Francis Walsh 1911 sept qt Manchester mother Ward.
Mary Walsh 1914 mar qt Manchester mother Ward.
John W Walsh 1917 as already found

After 1925 reg district became Manchester North 1925-1939
Manchester South 1925-1939
Then back to Manchester from 1939
When and where are siblings Thomas, Sarah ,Kate, and Margaret born?

I still think Gavin should get his grandfathers birth cert or his marriage cert first to find his fathers name and occupation
