I have hit a reatlly big brick wall, I am trying to find the parents of Thomas Sanderson born 1839/40 in either Durham or Northumberland, I have 3 possible sets of parents for him, How do I find the right one?.
He married Mary Young in Chesterfield in 1864 and was then aged 24.
Has anyone else got them on their tree or am I the only descendent
Thanks
Sandy

Hi, Just figured out how to reply to you.
I have the marriage cert, and no name for father on it.
He was a coal miner and aged 24.
I have 3 possible sets of parents two where the father has died before 1861 but just dont know how to find the right ones.
Many Thanks
Sandy

Hi. Me again.
I have tried searching the trees on here but no one seems to have traced the parents of Thomas only his wife Mary.

No father names on a marriage cert usually means they were illegitimate. Sometimes tho a father was named to save face and put as deceased. I would go more with him being illegitimate

Hi. Thanks Annie, but I dont think so his marriage was August 1864 aged 24 so that makes his birth sometime after Aug 39. Really annoying me now that I cant find anything.

Have you found him on any census to narrow down his place of birth? What was his occupation?

Have you found him on any census after he was married to Mary. I can see 2 who have Mary as wife and are both coal miners

This is not answering your specific question, but I had an ex-sister-in-law whose maiden name was Sanderson. About 25 - 30 years ago she went to a large meeting somewhere in Surrey, I think, organised for all Sandersons. Apparently she was told that there is something odd about Sandersons - they are all related - not separate groups of people just sharing the same name. I can't remember the details, and now can't ask her, but someone must know about it.

Hi all. Thanks for all your support. I have found Thomas and Mary after 1864 no problem, Born in Durham/Co Durham He was a Coal Miner when my Nan (His Daughter)was born, It is prior to 1864 that I would like to find out. I think I have found him on the 1861 census, living in Painshaw which is where Mary was born, but not having anyone else on that census has not helped me.
Curious about all Sandersons being related, would love to know more if anyone knows anything.
Thanks again. I will keep looking and hoping.

Christine.
You have me curious now. I have Sanderson from York. Not direct relatives though

Hi all, Thanks for your help, but still no further in finding his parents, judging by one reply, could be all Sandersons are related even from York.
I will just have to get the birth Cert if I can ever decide which one of the 3 is his and go from there.
Thanks all
Sandy

Hello Quinsgran

I have to say this was a long time ago, and I have no idea who did the organising of this meeting or what their authority was - maybe it was just somebody's theory, but it seems a lot of trouble to go to without something to back it up!

Hi Thanks Howard, But I dont think this is the same one, as mine was a Coal Miner and still alive in the 1911 Census. Thanks anyway for your note.
