My great grandmother was Mary Tait, nee Carrigan, born in 1854. She lived near Rothbury in Northumberland. She died in around 1896, in a snowstorm somewhere between Rothbury & Ritton - she was found one field from home. Jack, Bill, Ned, Kate & Maggie were her children who were all teenagers when she died. Apparently, the local paper in one of their ' this happened 100 years ago today' bits, had an excerpt about her death in 1996 (ish). Unfortunately, I cannot deduce which paper (the Alnwick Gazette/Northumberland Gazette perhaps). Does anyone have any details (or can find her date of death for me?). I would really like to get hold of the newspaper article, but I am a novice at Genealagy, and don't know where to start. Thank you in advance! |
