Can anybody help Please, I am searching Thomas Stubbs born Manchester 1806/7,he was convicted and transported to Hobart Australia 1824 aboard SS Phoenix, his court transcript describes him as having a wedding ring tatooed on his finger along with the initials TS and AC ? the C was damaged, he lived with an Aunty Fitsimmons in Oats Street Manchester at time of arrest, he became a hotelier and business man after his release, he married Frances Trudgett in Hobart 1832, Frances also a ex convict, they produced a very large family and remained in Tasmania, Thomas was not required to give any family details then and he didn't, I have searched successfully back to Thomas but cannot get beyond him.

Reg - if you put the full name in your subject line (believe it or not, nobody reading the main board can see what the surname is) and add something like "transported to Australia 1824", you are most likely to catch the eye of people with Australian expertise who may be able to help.

The IGI does have one TS who matches your specs well:

THOMAS STUBBS
Christening: 23 FEB 1806 Cathedral, Manchester, Lancashire, England
Father: JOHN STUBBS
Mother: MARY
Batch No.: C005469

You can search there for the parents' marriage and for other children of the same parents, if you want to investigate that possibility. There look to be three other births likely to the same parents (just search for no name, father John Stubbs, mother Mary, 1800 +/- 20 years, Lancashire).

His marriage and death records in Australia don't state any parents' names?

In 1841 all Fitzsimmons-s in Manchester born before 1811 were born in Ireland.

There is a Thomas Stubbs born c1806 living in Manchester with wife Ellen and children John and Mary, in 1841. Although he shows as not born in county, he might be a good candidate for beiing the Thomas Stubbs above, given the names, i.e. possibly ruling that one out.

Hi Reg

There are several Thomas Stubbs born around Manchester during that time. What did he call his children. Can we find a link back to his father following the traditional naming pattern?
