The elusive Edith Amy Stoner

Ruth Report 11 Jan 2011 14:51

Hi all, can anyone help with yet another brick wall, getting a few these days!

I am looking for details for Edith Amy Stoner born in Jun 1877 in Ockley, Surrey, England.
She died in 9 Oct 1927 at 59 Pascoe Road, Catford, Lewisham.

I have details of her marrying on 13 Jul 1907 at Register Office, Brighton, Sussex, East Sussex to Frederick Philp (11 Sept 18 - 12/03/1949)
She had 5 children who were Frederick (1910 - 1910), Henry (1911 - 1990), Thomas (1914 - 1988), Charles (1919 - 1996) and Violet (1922 - 2004) who was my grandmother.

I think Edith's parents were William Stoner and Margeret but have nothing to confirm this except for a family tree on ancestry which matches mine.

Can anyone help me find Edith before she got married and who and where her parents were?
Thanks

1901 for her. Do you not have her birth certificate? Or even her marriage certificate will confirm father's name and occupation.

Sorry, didn't mean to post then go, but was on lunchbreak!

I'm not convinced I have the right date of birth for Edith as she is nowhere to be found up to her marriage to Frederick.

I don't have eitherthe birth or wedding cert as spent so much recently will have to wait a bit, but have been doing amazingly well on my tree recently until I hit this particular madam!

There are trees on ancestry with suggest parents of George and Ann but there are no records ayyached to confirm it and I have learnt the lesson of copying other trees due to errors.

Well, I think you will have to save your pennies and get that marriage cert! Nothing else for it.

I think she mixed up Sussex and Surrey as it's corrected on the 1901 image. What an elusive woman she is!

After finding details from help given I can confirm that Ernest is Edith's brother, or very likely to be so would make sense of living nearby!

rootgatherer Report 13 Jan 2011 14:12

I don't see Ernest on the 1901 or 1891 census with a father George! There are a couple of possible Ernests born in Brighton around the correct time but fathers are Alfred and Albert

I agree - have been searching since yesterday and no luck. What a family!!

Update.

Emily's father was a George Stoner, and George Stoner and Ann, nee Steel, are in the 1881 census with an Emily aged 6, born Keymer. Sister Florence was also born Keymer.

The IGI shows Edith Ann Stoner, baptism Keymer 7/6/1874, parents
George and Ann.

The 1891 census has sister Florence born Ockley, Keymer.

There was an Ockley Manor in Sussex near Keymer.

Edith Ann isn't quite Edith Amy - and the closest birth index match was Edith Emily, 2Q1874 Cuckfield, which includes Keymer.
