hi there is there anyone who can help me find a marriage the details i have is
john william steward born c1866 batley carr
married a mary born hull c1869

they had children in hull between 1889 and 1899
im struggling to find a maiden name for mary
and cant seem to find a marriage in freebmd
any help would be appreciated, also i cant seem to find john steward prior to 1891 at least not born in batley carr and im unsure as to the district batley carr is in

Dewsbury ....... I think

Have you identified the births of the children in the GRO index (FreeBMD)?

The only way to know their mother's name for certain is to obtain one of their birth certificates.

Then you should be able to find the parents' marriage ... if they were married. ;)

There are 5 Steward births in Dewsbury district (thanks, BoroGirl!) 1889-1899.

If you click on the district name at FreeBMD, and then on the "here" for info, it lists Batley as one of the parishes in the district.

Oops ... it wasn't the children who were born in Dewsbury district.

Ne'er mind. We know where Batley is now. ;)

they where definatly married, and yes have found them, i will send off for one then thankyou, i was just hoping for a faster temporary solution,
i will check him for dewsbury on census thank you

Were they maybe the ones born in Dewsbury district? Is the place of birth Hull taken from a census? Could be inaccurate. Check out the names for the ones in Dewsbury.
