My g.grandfather William Thomas Stevens went to live in America in 1900 - searched for him on passenger lists, but to no avail. I know he was born in Derby, in 1863, and have quite a few letters written to my nan, his daughter, from 1901 - 1928. He first lived in New York, and his last letter was written from Chicago in which he mentioned going to live in Canada. I can't find him on any of the American Census Returns. Can anyone advise please - thank you Paulette

Hi Ann

I used Ancestry to get the census, I think you used FMP?

Paulette also says the baptism info is him too which is the bit that confuses me?

The details above are all correct Ginny, Hannah was his sister, and she was married to Samual Johnson. His last know address before he left was The Scarsdale Arms, Collyer Street Derby. His mother was Mary Ann, and his father was John Thomas. The first address I have for him in New York is 795 Tenth Avenue, and his last 33 South Lincoln Street Chicago.

Paulette Report 13 Mar 2011 21:20

**Ann**

**Ann** Report 13 Mar 2011 21:32

How do you know for def if you cannot find him sailing?

Is there a possibilty he travelled twice?

Paulette

Paulette Report 13 Mar 2011 22:33

this is the information that got passed on to me - my nan was 93 when she died, and she told me that she was 7 when he went - if she was born in 1893 that makes it 1900 when he went - you may be right, but I have his letter dated 1901 from New York x
