Who did he marry in Hokitika, New Zealand in 1867?He was 25 and wife 21. He went to NZ in 1862 aged 20. Daughter Louisa Stephenson.

George Timothy Stephenson married 1873 to Mary Blythe Stenhouse

The information I have is that Louisa Stephenson was born in 1846 in England. She arrived in NZ in 1849 aged 3. Have death certificate of Louisa Anderson who died 26 June 1928 in Dunedin. She married at 21 (14 March 1867 so that confirms year of birth) and was in NZ for 79 years. Her father signed Marriage Certificate "Timothy Stephenson, Comm...Agent, Hokitika." Timothy arrived in NZ in 1862 aged 20. Shall keep
hunting through paperwork but don't seem to have any further information about Timothy.

Timothy could not be Louisa's father if he arrived in N.Z. 1862 aged 20 years that means he was born in 1842, only 4 years old than Louisa!!

Have checked 1851 English Census, there is only one Timothy Stephenson mentioned, he was on all Census' till 1881.
It looks like your 'Timothy' was probably born under another name.

Must be tired..... yes made a mistake there. Maybe I should
be looking for information re Louise Stephenson's birth and
confirm parents that way? Have her year of birth as 1846 in
the UK.

What about this one from the London area....?
The family lived in Conduit Street and Timothy was a linen draper.

have a note that someone thought Timothy's wife was Harriet.

Timothy went to New Zealand in 1862- that will be my next
quest to find out more.

Now I am totally confused and feel I need to start again...well sort of. I feel it is correct that Timothy Stephenson married in England - to Harriet Stump 5 Mar 1843 - his father Joseph Stephenson.
Maybe I need census look up for Joseph? Then work from there to establish the dob of Timothy as the dates I had seem incorrect. Harried died in Nov 1904 in NZ.
Now mystery has deepened with marriage of a Timothy
Stephenson to Ellen Wood in 1866 in Digger, Vic, Australia?
Cannot find dod for T in NZ, maybe he died in Australia? Help please!!

The Timothy Stephenson marriage in Victoria 1866, states that his birthplace was Horncastle

Am presuming Horncastle is in Australia.

The birth Quinsgran found for Louisa Augusta Stephenson
b1867 is not your Louisa this one is in my family tree, she was born in Thames, New Zealand and her parents where Charles Augustus Stephenson and Mary Bell. Charles changed his surname from Short to Stephenson on arrival in NZ [a family mystery as to why] so there is no Connection with your Stephenson family.

I gave Lyndsay the birth of Louisa because she had said Timothys daughter was called Louisa. However she didnt tell us she was born in England till later.

Many thanks for that .... now know Timothy's year of birth and that his father was Joseph, wife and children.
