I am trying to find where my 3xgrt grandfather, James STEPHENS c1828/30s was born. He married a lady by the name of Elizabeth - surname unknown. According to the 1861 Warks census, Elizabeth was born in Newport, Salop and James was possibly deceased by this point. There is a marriage on the IGI in Ludlow between a James STEPHENS and Elizabeth HARLEY in 1840 but I don't know if this is they. It seems a long way from Newport to get married. They had at least one child, my 2xgrt grandfather, John Edward STEPHENS who was born in Portobello, Staffs (between Bilston and Willenhall). John married Betsy ROBBINS in 1870 at St Johns, Perry Barr and went on to have at least 4 children. Does anyone have any connection to this family? If so, I would love to hear from you. Best wishes Maggs

Hi
This elizabeth was willoughby in the 1861 census. One of us therefore has the wrong elizabeth or james.
My james stephens married eliazabeth willoughby in warkwick. he was born in 1823c I have seen the census and i am sure that is my ggg gran elizabeth willoughby as she shows up on the 1841 census as father james willoughby and then in 1861 she is a widow.
Can you clarify this?
best wishes
