Find Ancestors

hi, im looking for any descendants(or ancestors) of william smith born 1831 in todmorden, yorkshire. he married an ann holden born 1832 in gedling notts. his wife died sometime in the 1880`s i think. they lived in tod, after his wife died william moved to birkenhead with one of his sons and family - late 1880`s/ 1890. william and anns children were (all born in todmorden):- james william smith, 1853, ? not known what happened patty shelton smith,1855, married a john shaw, had many kids, ended up in liverpool. nothing known after this fred smith, married a ??esme jones,possibly a sailor, had kids samuel, ann and louise. nothing else known, were did they live? samuel smith, 1867 - my g/grandad, married a sarah ann haywood from west brom, moved to birkenhead after birth of first child joseph. other kids include sydney(my g/dad), walter, doris and louisa. louisa, 1870,never married, 'adopted' by her aunt louisa brooks nee holden, ended up on the wirral. sorry its so long, but hit a big brick wall. no trace of william pre 1861 census or his family (i know smith is not exactly an uncommon name). also im particulary interested in finding anything out about descendents of james william, patty(shaw) and fred.many thanks, sara
