Orkney Smiths - originally from Tankerness in St Andrews parish in the late 1600s I have been loaned a detailed family record of Orkney Smiths starting with a John Smith who married a Margaret Redland and lved in Tankerness, Orkney in the late 1600s. I have now established to my satisfaction that these are distant ancestors of mine - I am related through my Orkney "Smith" Great Grandmother. Am adding details from this Tree regularly, and propose to loan the background details v soon to the Orkney Family History Society, Kirkwall Library, to transcribe. Meanwhile, if you really do think that your Smith Ancestry had likely Orkney/North of Scotland forebears I am prepared to open my Tree for you to view via John Smith or Margaret Redland both born in Orkney, late 1600s John Shearer
