Hi, I've spent many hours (and pounds on Scotlands People!) trying to find a baptism for my Great Grandfather x3 Daniel Smith. I have found all three of his marriages and his death on S. Peoples site, he died 2nd April 1876 at 10 Cannnock Street Greenock, where he lived for many years. His death record it states that his place of birth was Campeltown Argyllshire, c1824, Parents were John Smith and Elizabeth Lynch?- difficult to read maiden name of Mother. I have also been unable to find a marriage for his Parents.

There is a mystery with his first Wife too, her name was Sarah McKinnon, their marriage was booked for proclamation on 14th May 1843 in Glasgow, they had one Daugher Elizabeth Smith c1845 (my Great x 2 Grandmother) By the 1851 census Daniel has married for a second time to Margaret Bryan in 1850, there is no sign of his Daughter Elizabeth, who would have been about six at that time. I haven't found a death record for Sarah, and can't locate Elizabeth on that census, I thought she may have been with relatives.
Any help or advise would be very welcome please, many thanks.

Hi, first of all sorry to have been so long replying, I've been ill. Thank you so much for all of the information.
Paula W - I don't think any of these can be the right birth, as on every record he gives his birth place as Campbeltown, but thanks anyway.

Kath - yes that's the right Daniel on the 1851 census at 75 Mcalpine Street, with his second Wife Margaret Bryan, they married on 8th Nov 1850.

The long shot Kath, well that could be Elizabeth, on the 1861 census I found her with her Uncle John Smith, born c1821 in Perthshire, no place name given, just the County, and his Wife Margaret. She was born c1813 on the Isle of Gigha, which is close to Campbeltown I think. John Smith was a shipwright / grocer by trade. They were living at 4 Vennel Street Greenock at the time. I've been looking for a marriage for John and Margaret without success so far.
Daniel named one of his Daughters Janet, on that census one of the sisters had that name, another clue maybe?

Anthony - the only sibling I know about for Daniel so far is the John I've just mentioned.
I'm going to have a good look at the 1851 census info that Kath found now,
thank you so much for all of the help, this is really frustrating!
