Trying to find biological Grandmother

Mary Smith aged 17 gave birth to Karen Edna Smith in 1942 in Abingdon. Karen (my mum) was given up for adoption at 6 weeks, can anyone help?

has your mum been able to see her adoption file. It may give more clues to her birth family although in 1942 they may not have been so meticulous in what they asked the birth mum.

There are 2 Mary Smiths born in Abingdon.One a Mary A 1923 and the other Mary J. Both of there mothers maiden names was Smith also. Annie

Girls were often sent away to have babies so Mary may not have been from Abingdon.

Also it was wartime she could have been working away
