At the end or dureing the genral strike 1926/8 my family were persuaded or
forced to send there children to Canada for as it was put to them "for a better life'

There names were mostly Smith although other cousins went to, all came from the South Durham
Coal feilds, and there father,s were miner,s who
were homeless due to the strike

Trimdon ,Trimdon Grange, Wheatley Hill, Wingate,
Thornley were just a few of the pit,s my family worked at.

It is belived they went out on the SS Burmuda Star

I had a look at the site for "Home Children" sent to Canada. There are no records for the ship "Bermuda Star" There are however over 1700 Smiths!
