I am trying to find where my great grandmother Edith Mary Johnson
was born. I am not sure of the year of her birth, as I have conflicting information on her marriage and death certificate - but the year would have been between 1884-1887. She was married on 24 December 1906 to Tom Quickfall Johnson at Caistor parish church, Lincolnshire (possibly St Peter & St Paul), and is shown on the certificate to be 22 and her father's name was James Smith and his profession Draper. On her death certificate (died 21 February 1926) it states that she was 39.

I have searched the 1891 & 1901 census returns, but although there are possible matches I haven't found anything conclusive.

Does anyone know if church records would show where she was born and when? If so, is there anyway other than an actual visit to the church that you can get this information?

Any help or advise to this novice researcher would be gratefully received.

I think the 1887 one would be the one to apply for as the 1883 one has a father Robert. The 1887 one does have a father James but he is Timber Lab in 1891 and fish carter in 1901, though of couse he could have changed his occupation after 1901

1891 Great Grimsby (reg dist Caistor)
James Smith 27 Timber Lab b Metheringham Lincs
Jane Smith 29 wife b Ludford Lincs
Edith M 3 b Grimsby
James A 1 b Grimsby

1901 Clee
James Smith 38 Fish Carter b metheringham
Jane Smih 40 wife b ludford
Edith M 13 b Grimsby
James A 11 b Grimsby

And 1887 fits the age on the death cert
