I am looking for any further information on Prince smith born in Bradford, West Yorkshire in 1826. His wife was called Elizabeth Roundell born 1823 in Leeds. If anyone has any information on either of these two please get in touch.

Hi Alannah

To save wasting peoples time do you already have:

BMD info/Census info/parents etc..

There is one on the 1871 census in Weeton who is a Farmer and Grocer, his wife Elizabeth says her place of birth is Rigton. Weeton and Rigton are in Wetherby Registration District where your Prince Smith married Elizabeth Roundell in Dec 1855.

IGI has a Prince Smith Christening: 16 JUN 1826 Bradford parents James and Betty.

On the 1861 census the above family are in Stainburn with Princes mother Elizabeth Emsley? c1792 Whitby Widow, Grocer. Prince and Elizabeth are Schoolteachers.

Hi Dave,

There seems to be some confusion around the parenst of Prince. His mother may have remarried as she is called Elizabeth Emsley 1792 on the census (married to John emsley 1792) Prince's father was poss James Smith (1796) but I need this confirming.
Only info I have on Elizabeth Roundell is that her mother may have been Mary King (poss remarried also). I'm having trouble getting any further back than that!

Alannah

She does call herself Betty in 1841 and also on the marriage to John Emsley on 25 JAN 1830 Bradford.

John was also a schoolmaster I see.

I notice Betty says she is from Whitby area (my neck of the woods) and also Clitherbecks.

There is a farm named that near Danby.

In Baines's Directory of 1823 in Danby there are:

Thornton and Petch, coal proprietors, Clitherbecks

Who do Prince and Elizabeth give as fathers on their marriage cert?

I assume you have seen Elizabeth on the 1841 and 1851 census with her uncle and aunt.

I haven't seen their marriage certificate I'm afraid. I can't seem to find Prince's Birth Certificate/parish records of hsi marriage certificate. I think I may have seen the 1841/51 census but didn't know where to go from then. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you for your time!
